U7/8 PROGRAM

LPSC is proud to partner with East Sacramento Soccer, River Park Soccer, Greenhaven Soccer Club, and Delta United (Clarksburg) Soccer to offer inter-club play. This partnership is called Metro Kids Soccer (MKS). Our U7s and U8s have the opportunity to travel short distances to play against our partner clubs. The focus of the MKS partnership is to further our players’ soccer development in a fun, positive, and supportive atmosphere. All four clubs within this partnership are committed to sportsmanship and will do everything within their power to ensure that every player in the program has a fun, happy, and safe soccer experience.

MKS utilizes the Small-Sided game format. Small-sided games help children get more touches on the ball and focus on building the skills they will need as they progress in their soccer development. This style of play places emphasis on maximizing touches, creativity, and individual development. The focus shifts away from team success and towards player development. The games are intended to be cooperative; NOT competitive, to ensure fun for all participants. All coaches are expected to keep games as even as possible, and “blowouts” are against the rules.

TEAM AND GAME FORMAT

U7/8 Metro Kids Soccer games will be administered by the presidents of the five partner clubs. All scheduling will be done within the partnership.

Teams are single-gender. U7 teams will play other U7 teams; U8 teams will play other U8 teams unless a team’s performance dictates a move to a higher or lower division.

Each team will be divided into 2 teams consisting of 4 players and Substitutes, for each game. Each small team will play 4v4 games simultaneously on two parallel fields. Games will be 32 minutes in length; divided into four 8-minute quarters. There will be a 5-minute break between quarters. There are no goalies in this age group, and the score is not kept. The USSF Player Initiatives mandate that U7 and U8 use Puggs or other types of small nets.

All MKS Clubs will do their best to provide Game Monitors for all of their home games.
